Ah, the joys of work.
They installed some security patches last night here at work that totally messed up some of our programs. So this morning I get asked to create an upload to run the entries for one of those programs.
Here's how the conversation went:
Manager from other area (MFOA): Jenny, can you create the upload for xyz program?
Me: Sure, not a problem.
MFOA: I've got a template saved out there for it. Last time we had to do this it took 6 hours.
Me: 6 hours!? How did it take 6 hours? Last time I had to do it it took 10 minutes.
MFOA: How did you get it done in 10 minutes? Don't you have to go out into Z program and export and do all of these other things?
Me: Ah, no. You just open your text file right in Excel and put the columns where you want them to separate the data. It really took you 6 hours to do this last time?
15 minutes later (I chatted on the phone for a little bit)
Me: Hey MFOA, I'm done with the upload and I've sent it over to you.
MFOA: You're done already?
Me: I told you it wouldn't take very long!
Don't you love it when people in charge have no clue what's really going on? Apparently the last time this happened was the day I called in sick. There are several people in this area who know how to do what I did, but MFOA didn't deem it necessary to ask anyone. Well, it wasn't a waste of my 6 hours that day, so that's all that really matters.
