What's offensive?
Everybody has their own idea about what offends and what doesn't. I think that in today's society, a lot of people take what others do personally.
Case in point: Arkansas nixes offensive pink jerseys
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- Arkansas coach Houston Nutt has decided that his players who are caught loafing will no longer wear pink jerseys during practices in an effort to avoid offending breast cancer survivors.
Okay, I can see where some could find offense, but it's a football team. They're guys. Most of the guys I know wouldn't want to have to wear a pink jersey during practice.
My biggest fear is not that I will offend someone, it's that we as a society will get to the point where what we wear, what we do will be dictated by the ideas of others. We live in a country that values freedom. Our men and women have fought and many have died over the past few centuries to ensure that we can remain free, that we can choose what to wear and what to do. Just because I'm wearing a certain color of shirt doesn't mean I'm for or against anything. It's what I wanted to wear that day. If I wear a yellow shirt, it doesn't mean I put it on that morning thinking LiveStrong. It usually means it was a clean shirt in my drawer or closet and I needed to get going for work.
That leads me to lawsuits. I spilled a cup of hot fast-food coffee on me. I'm going to sue them for millions and now they need to tell us on the cup the coffee is hot. It's coffee, people. It's supposed to be hot. I am so sick of looking at warnings and cautions on everything that I purchase. I know I shouldn't put the baby near the plastic bag, because it could suffocate. I know I shouldn't pull the battery apart because it could cause personal injury.
People need to take responsability for their actions. They need to pay attention to their kids to make sure they aren't getting into things they shouldn't be. They need to use some basic common sense. They obviously survived their childhood without all the warnings, why do they need them now.
I'm done ranting for the time being, but you may hear from me again the next time I read something that irritates me like this.
And for those who might take offense at this post, tough. I completely support breast cancer patients, survivors, family and friends. I've had family and friends who have died from this disease and friends who have survived it. I just think people need to grow up and figure out that not everything in the world revolves around them. Like football players forced to wear pink jerseys for being late.
